Krisis Kemerosotan Institusi Politik Dan Kepercayaan Sejagat

Seperti yang diamati oleh Francis Fukuyama dalam karyanya Political Order and Political Decay: From the Industrial Revolution to the Globalization of Democracy, dunia hari ini sedang mengalami kemerosotan politik (political decay) yang bercirikan dua elemen penting, iaitu ketegaran institusi (institutional rigidity) dan penguasaan kelompok elit dalam aspek kepimpinan (capture of the state by elites).

Beliau menyimpulkan bahawa punca utama kepada kemerosotan tahap demokrasi dan kebebasan secara mendadak sejak 2006 disebabkan oleh “…weak rule of law and the abuse of power by ruling executives who originally came to office via competitive democratic elections”.

Laporan strategik Outlook on the Global Agenda (2015), telah menyenaraikan krisis kepimpinan (lack of leadership) sebagai salah satu trend utama dalam senarai 10 trend utama global.

Raikan lebaran,

Tautkan persaudaraan,

Lestarikan kehidupan,

Sayangi persekitaran.

Pergi ke masjid sembahyang raya,

Jika jauh berkongsi kereta,

Jika dekat berjalan kaki sahaja,

Juga bila ziarah saudara mara.

Saling bermaaf-maafan,

Bersalam bermesraan,

Hentikanlah pembaziran,

Juadah lebih disedekahkan.

Berseri wajah dan juga cantik,

Berperibadi dan bersantun kalam,

Kurangkan penggunaan plastik,

Gunakan bahan mesra alam.

Enak sungguh aneka hidangan,

Jumlahnya banyak tak terbilang,

Didik tetamu habiskan makanan,

Elak kutleri pakai buang.

Natijah puasa meraih taqwa,

Iman dijaga alam terpelihara,

Dari kami GRASS Malaysia,

Khalifah berjasa Alam Sejahtera.

Selamat menyambut lebaran yang lestari!

Celebrating Eid In The Spirit Of Love And Equality

by:- Muhammad Faisal Abdul Aziz, Secretary General, Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia

Improving quality of lives, rebuilding human characters and upholding equal dignities of human beings are the main philosophies derived from the fasting concept during Ramadhan. Allah said in the Quran :

“O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, so that you may attain Taqwa (righteous)” Al-Baqarah: 183.

Renowned scholar, Sheikh Muhammad Rashid Ridha in his Quranic translation and commentary “Al-Manar” described that the reason behind the obligation to fast was for the benefits of mankind. He outlined two main points- first was to develop the feeling of mercy and love towards the poor and the oppressed, and second, to make people realise the equal status between human beings.

In order to understand the journey of human lives filled with oppression, injustice, and discrimination towards the underprivileged, these feelings must be inculcated in the minds of Muslims in the form of training to re-educate human character and self-discipline. This intensive training concept granted by Allah is a grand mechanism to coach humans which is repeated every single year to keep the subject fresh.

The utmost feeling of love and mercy towards the poor and the needy can only be achieved by sharing the experience of hunger and thirst in the most literal sense. This will subsequently prompt us to empower the society as a whole by lending help to those in need.

Similarly, in the context of equality, the term can only be given life when we have reached the deepest understanding of it theoretically and practically, which can effectively be achieved through a certain special training. Muslims worldwide with no exception- regardless of their social status, race, colour, wealth- endure hunger during daylight hours before simultaneously breaking their fast at Maghrib, after the sun has set. This prescription by Allah reiterates the very core that builds a Muslim nation- that all men are equal in the eyes of the Lord, save their level of piety or taqwa.

Close Detention Camps, Free The Uyghur

The Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM) calls on the People’s Republic of China to release Uyghur Muslims immediately from the Xinjiang detention camps. ABIM also urges all such centres and established camps to be closed without delay.

The transgression and violation of human rights against ethnic Uyghurs in these camps are beyond the bounds of humanity. Disclosures made by Uyghur communities who were forced to flee China clearly reveals the viciousness, describing the detentions camps as torture centres causing physical injuries , psychological stress, depression and trauma among interned ethnic Uyghur.

Uyghur communities have been denied access to information and contact that has resulted in them being separated from their family members in Xinjiang and abroad. Most Uyghur are being deprived of citizen’s rights to possess and renew passports which bars them from moving freely, and this includes being unable to return home without being subject to further intidimidation, detention and persecution.

Renewal of Islamic Thought: Conference in honor of Shaykh Dr. Taha Jabir Al-Alwani

IIIT honored one of its late founders, Shaykh Dr. Taha Jabir Al-Alwani (d. 2016), with an October 23-24 seminar on the renewal of Islamic thought, a topic that he engaged with and pursued throughout his entire adult life, even when he was ill and confined to a wheelchair.

Held at the IIIT headquarters in Herndon, VA, this event celebrated his original and sometimes provocative contributions to Islamic jurisprudence, in which he had earned a PhD from al-Azhar (1973), most notably his establishment of a new discipline: a jurisprudence for minorities (fiqh al-aqaliyyat). Abubaker Al-Shingieti (executive director, IIIT), Hisham Altalib (president, IIIT), Ermin Sinanović (director of research, IIIT), Saber Al-Kilany (library director, IIIT), and Zainab Alwani (Howard University) welcomed the attendees.

Sinanović referred to Shaykh Taha as a traditionally trained scholar who understood modern realities. Al-Kilany, who had a long-term working relationship with him, remarked upon his humility, sense of humor, and concern for others – even children. His daughter and long-time pupil Zainab Alwani spoke on a usually ignored area: how well he fulfilled his responsibility as a father who would discuss matters of religion with his children instead of demanding unquestioning obedience.

The first keynote speaker, Azizah al-Hibri (University of Richmond and KARAMAH), recalled Shaykh Taha’s attitude that “it is better to think and be wrong than not to think at all” and his constant urging of others to engage in critical thought. Among many other important points, she praised him for his role, along with Dr. Seyyed Hossein Nasr, in refuting a Muslim group’s claim that the Supreme Court’s depiction of the Prophet in its frieze of humanity’s lawgivers was idolatrous and therefore had to be destroyed.
